Four Part Harmony: A Way of Prayerful Living, October 17-18, 2005
Rev. Hugh Smith, III will present. Come and join others as we look at what it means to live prayerfully every hour, seeking to discover how we can allow four specific dimensions of prayer to become interwoven in harmony in our approach to all of life:
·cultivating a deep reverence and attentiveness to God in all things
·remembering that Christ is within you and within others
·letting go of all the fears, burdens, and powerless places in complete trust in God, releasing the outcome of all things to God
·maintaining an attitude of open receptivity to discovering God’s nvitation, intention and leading, or gift in every occasion.
10 AM Tuesday, October 17 to 3 PM Wednesday, October 18, 2005
Calvin claimed that the chief work of faith is prayer, but in the reformed tradition we often have come to view prayer as limited to that passive engagement with God in which we participate during times of personal devotion or public worship. Many of us complain that we just don’t have enough time for prayer in our busy lives.
The retreat will consist of experiential talks and discussions, learning and practicing some practical spiritual exercises, having personal time for quiet, writing and reflection, working with clay, sharing in small groups, worshipping together and celebrating the sacrament.
